Bye Bye Talbots Kids

I just read in today’s paper that Talbots is going to close all of its Talbots Kids stores nationwide by this September. Read about it here on Yahoo News. Really too bad. There is a Talbots Kids just a block away from where I live in Manhattan and I have been there so many times in the past 4 years to buy things for R. and Baby S. I loved that their baby clothing was cut big (my 99th percentile babies were able to wear their size 24mos until almost nearly that age). I always stock up there on barrettes and undershirts for R., and turtlenecks and pants for Baby S. And now that R. is in the 4-6X size range, I could always count on Talbots for age-appropriate (not trashy) girls’ clothing. Their stuff is somewhat pricey (maybe that’s why the stores were not heavily trafficked and are closing) but I always found great deals during their sales. Oh, so sad. I hope something good opens in its place. In the meantime, stock up on staples while you can at Talbots Kids.

Oh no! I love Talbot’s Kids! I am fortunate enough to have one just 10 minutes from me and always hit their semi-annual sales to stock up for the next year. (Fantastic bargains on quality clothing) Guess I’ll be hitting their going-out-of-business sale in August. =(

Here is a note from a disappointed mom, who has just learned of the Talbot’s Kids closing, now already some six months ago.

Would anyone be able to recommend another store/brand in Manhattan that would equal in quality, and YES – age-appropriate “nice” clothing, and the great sale prices? (And honestly, Gymboree does not cut it on any of these accounts.)
    Many thanks!

I also loved Talbots kids and just came across this blog today! I have been going to Hanna Andersen for clothes that are appropriate and good quality. Although a little pricey, if you hit the sales, you can do pretty well.

I recently discovered Mini Boden online, last summer, and have been happy with alot of their clothes for my daughter. They are located in the UK but ship to the US. Most of the time you can get their deal of 10% off and free shipping and free returns, and their customer service phone number is in the US, which helps alot. They seem to have very good customer service and some cute and well made items, at least the ones I have purchased. Mini boden is the kids section of Boden.com
