Doh! Stamps Just Went Up Again

Did you know that first class postage went up to 44 cents yesterday? I had no idea until the kindergarten class mother e-mailed everyone to remind them (smart mom- she knew we were all too busy to hear this news). Not to sound like an old lady, but doesn’t it seem like they are raising postage ALL the time now? And to sound even older, “I remember when it cost 15 cents to mail a letter!” Anyway, these just-released Simpsons 1st class stamps are a good way to lighten the mood, if not your wallet. Each booklet of 20 self-adhesive stamps features 5 designs (Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie) and costs $8.80. I think the same thing either just happened, or is about to happen here in Canada.

The real frustrating thing is that the actual service provided by Canada Post seems to decline with each passing year. It was shocking how bad it was when I moved back to Canada from the States.

Sad that I know this, but here goes… Postal regulations were changed back in 2007 so that the USPS could increase the stamp rate at the rate on inflation for the prior year. They picked May as the month, and plan to increase the rate every year. So you can expect another raise next May!
