I’m so happy to tell you about the newest CD by my dear friend Melissa Levis and her band, aka “Moey’s Music Party.” Pink-boa-adorned Moey (the best “mommy rocker” in NYC) has produced a CD that manages to be girly enough for the most diehard princess-lovers but also is chock full of positive, esteem-building messages for our little girls (and their Disney-weary moms). As Moey says, “I want to entertain kids while empowering them with the message that girls and princesses aren’t helpless maidens; they are helpful heroines who can wake themselves up with their own magical kisses, slay the dragon and even rescue the prince!” Sure enough, the CD rocks out with super-strength princess-themed messages about resilience, self-reliance, and confidence. And, yes, to entice your fairlytale-loving little girl, Princess Revolution! includes modern musical retellings of “The Princess and the Frog,” “The Princess and the Pea,” and “Sleeping Beauty. The CD has 15 tracks (my favorite is the feel-good ballad “You’re Different”) and retails for $15 at Moey’s Music Party.
