Song for Papa Crow

If you’re looking for new picture books for your child, check out the recently-released Song for Papa Crow by Boston author/illustrator Marit Menzin. Menzin’s award-winning collage art has been seen in various galleries and magazines, and is a lovely accompaniment for this sweet children’s tale. Most appropriate for ages 4 to 7, Song for Papa Crow tells the story of Little Crow who loves to sing, but learns an important lesson when he tries to copy others’ songs and voices. It’s a simple but timeless morality tale of why you should be yourself (and the courage that requires).  Two other pluses of this book: the cut-paper collage illustrations are fresh and unique among today’s picture books, and also do a good job of teaching children about various birds and their sounds in nature.  Buy it for $14.56 at Amazon.com.
