Happy Birthday to my mom, who is hands-down the best mother and grandma out there. As a special treat for her birthday, last weekend she got to take 10-year-old R. to see a performance of The Chocolate Show! , a new Off-Broadway musical in performances at 47th Street Theatre. It’s a fun, family-friendly musical celebrating all things chocolate. Here is my mom’s review:
It was delightful, creative, full of energy and talent. Songs were clever, as the ensemble presented a history of chocolate, starting with the discovery of the chocolate bean by a group of very energetic monkeys! There was audience participation, with the aim of crowning the King or Queen of Chocolate. Very amusing way to engage the audience. I would say children under 8 would miss some of the humor. Adults, especially chocaholics, will get a real kick out of this lively entertainment. The only disappointment for my 10 yr.old granddaughter: she prefers PLAIN chocolate bars. The chocolate bars that each ticketholder received were “too fancy” for her. Red devil chocolate, or orange chocolate, or chocolate with almonds are not her preference. She was longing for some m&m’s. But she would definitely recommend the show!
